After weeks of uncertainty, the romantic comedy Bhool Chuk Maaf starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi is finally set to hit theatres on May 23, 2025. This comes after a court directive resolved the legal dispute between Maddock Films and PVR Inox Cinemas regarding the film’s cancelled theatrical release.
Legal Dispute and Court Verdict
The conflict began when Maddock Films abruptly cancelled the theatrical release just a day before the scheduled premiere, citing rising Indo-Pak border tensions. Instead, they opted for a direct digital release on Amazon Prime Video, which led to PVR Inox suing Maddock Films for breach of contract worth Rs. 60 crores.
The court has now ordered Maddock Films to release Bhool Chuk Maaf in cinemas, putting an end to the legal tussle. PVR Inox has withdrawn its monetary claim following this ruling. The filmmakers will resume their marketing campaign from May 15 to promote the theatrical release.

Unique Digital Release Window for Bhool Chuk Maaf
Typically, Hindi films have an eight-week gap between theatrical and digital premieres. However, the court made an exception for Bhool Chuk Maaf to debut on Amazon Prime Video just two weeks after the theatrical release on June 6, 2025. This shortened OTT window is a one-time decision due to the unique circumstances surrounding the film.
