The Sabarmati Report marks Vikrant Massey’s comeback to the big screen. The film expands through the Godhra train burning episode of 2002. The movie was directed by Dheeraj Sarna and written by K. V.

Vijayendra Prasad under the production of Ektaa Kapoor, where the cinema unveils one of the Indian episodes, which has been a matter of considerable debate. Altogether, this film is not like any familiar movie released on Diwali and has a unique storyline that one has to contemplate.

The movie reminds the audience once again of the burning of the Sabarmati Express, in which 59 people were killed. It does this through journalist Samar Kumar, portrayed by Vikrant Massey, wondering if the mishap was an accident or a planned conspiracy.

Building layers into the narrative, the story features Hindi-speaking journalist Samar, English journalist Manika Rajpurohit, and investigative journalist Amrita Gill (Raashii Khanna). The made-up conflict between these characters offers a layer of ideology brought forward by Amrita’s investigation work, which adds the element of surprise.

Sabarmati Report Performances

Rising actor Vikrant Massey again stands out and effectively portrays the character by giving it a realistic touch. Raashii Khanna and Riddhi Dogra are his co-stars, who give equally powerful performances to add depth and emotional quotient to the film. Riddhi, as a bold female boss, is most memorable.

The director is Dheeraj Sarna, and it very much shows that despite doing an excellent overall job with some particular sequences, he is green behind the ears. Despite this, while the premise is derived from the Nanavati-Mehta Commission’s report, the narrative does stumble at times. However, great performances and a great background score make up for the rest.

Verdict

The Sabarmati Report is not just a film. It is about awareness, reflection, and awakening toward humanity and truth. It may have some shortcomings, but it does create an outstanding balance between the historical and fun aspects.

Moreover, it is highly recommended for history lovers. This movie is inspiring and pays great respect to the victims. The film is rated 3 stars.
